Anyone stocking up specific items in anticipation of prices sharply increasing?

I fear that the thread is inevitably heading towards political discussion, which means it has a short life. I am desperate to chip in, from this side of the Atlantic, but will hold off till tomorrow (if its still alive). :grinning:

I made zero such references.

General request:

Going to ask again that folks who want to discuss political things do it elsewhere

Please keep the “he” “him” and other speculation / commentary off the thread and stick to the topic of stocking up (or not).

Earlier on this thread, I mentioned that we buy from a local wine shop owned by a sole proprietor. Today she mentioned to my husband that she expects her imported rosé wines to arrive a month late this season, because importers were trying to avoid being hit with the very steep U.S. tariffs that were initially proposed.

So, that simple summer pleasure of a glass of Italian or French rosé that we look forward to will be delayed and cost more, even if not as much more as initially expected. Obviously there are worse things, but still. :pensive:

Husband picked up a few bottles of rosé that remained from last year’s stock so we are sure to have at least a little for this year.

My favorite whole-bean coffee from Guatemala, at Costco, has gone up from around $11.95 to $15.95 in two years, up $2.00 in the month since I last bought it.

I stocked up on whole bean coffee in early-mid 2025, but I still check prices. Prices have definitely risen in the past year, but Wegmans 32 oz (2 lbs) of whole bean Donut Shop blend and Columbian still seems to be holding its own at $17.99 and $18.99/bag, respectively.

But they also sell Stumptown Coffee, which I’ve tried and liked, and their Homestead Whole Bean is $15.99 for 12 oz. Umm, no.

I stock up on better quality pastas when I see them on sale.

My pantry has changed a lot over the past 5 years. I am buying less shelf stable stuff apart from pasta and dried beans. I’m stocking up on less stuff when it’s on sale.

I would stock up on some spices and olive oils.

A friend on another forum reminded me that the Costco Guatemalan beans are in two pound bags, so it’s not quite as bad as I thought (the brand is Peerless).

I haven’t had to restock international ingredients yet, but this might make it interesting for smaller supplier items:

One of my international ingredient mainstays is decent quality balsamic vinegar. A dear friend living in Italy would occasionally gift me a bottle from various small producers she happens to run across. Always looked forward to what her holiday package might contain. There won’t be one this year, due to the new restrictions.

I’ll be missing that joy and that way of connection. I imagine the same will be true for other folks who have had a tradition of small care packages from far away friends and family.
