I’m staying under my bed … oh wait. Uh oh.
I know this is not the groceries thread, and these aren’t groceries, but does this sound right?
I don’t usually buy them, but thought of doing it yesterday, until I saw the price. I see this is supposed to be 9 servings, and they are pretty dense.
They are priced at $5.69 on the bag, but they’re usually about the price you posted in the store ($4.99 at Smith’s, Las Vegas’ outpost of the Kroger empire (see photo).
But Kroger also sells a store brand of the same type of corn chips for much lower ($2.49 for 9 oz…see photo). I haven’t tried them yet (Fritos are ONE of my kryptonities) but if and when I get the deep desire to eat them, I might buy a package.
I don’t know if you have a local outpost of the Kroger empire where you are, but it might be worth a try.
BTW, the 3.5 oz bags of Fritos are a whopping $2.69 (see photo). I had a bunch of points to use at CVS and used them on a bag because I was deeply afraid of getting a big bag since I hadn’t had any Fritos in about 10 years.
That’s funny about “deeply afraid” of foodstuff. I have my kryptonite - it’s olive loaf. When I have a craving (my DH doesn’t care for it) I order 3 slices from the deli counter. That’s it. I might indulge myself twice a year…I like it on white bread with mayo.
As I was in Japan for 15 years where many favorite foods were unavailable or hard to find, there are things (usually high-calorie or unhealthy ones) that I make sure to stay clear of to keep the weight off. A good example is halvah (especially chocolate-covered or marble). I saw some a few weeks ago in a deli and made sure to leave before I succumbed to my desires and bought some.
I used to have to stay away from kettle fried chips, then I found these were a good keto friendly substitute for when I needed to get my salty crunch on.

They also cost almost $5!
It cracks me up when fried pork rinds are touted as a healthier snack option than chips, and I say that as someone who much prefers chicharrones over pretty much any potato chip, but certainly not for health or diet reasons.
The dill pickle chicharrones at Aldi are amazeballz. Healthy they are not.
It’s always nice to be able to laugh!
We all know how vague the word “healthy” can be. "Keto friendly " is less vague, at least to me. I am under the impression that these have less of an impact on glucose levels, which was a health reason for me. I would appreciate it if someone would share information to the contrary, but maybe on different thread.
Sorry for the distraction!
Oh, please. Apologizing for thread drift is like apologizing for the weather. It happens ![]()
$5.89 for the 9.25 oz. bag here at Star Market, just outside of Boston. We’re not a Fritos household though. We’re more likely to get Tostitos low sodium tortilla chips ($4.99/13 oz.).
Surprised to see that they charge more than the price printed on the package! (Which is $5.69)
I don’t think that is the price printed on the bag in all locations.
That could very well be. I guess that the price printed on the bags could be chosen by which plant the chips were made at.
If you’re looking for keto-friendly chicharrones, go to Belmar - La Gallinita Meat Market, 2989 24th St in San Francisco’s Mission District.

Thank you @ernie_in_berkeley !
That’s a bit of a drive for me, but we have local versions.
This 4505 company is also out of the Bay Area. ETA; nope; City of Industry.
They make another version they call “cracklins”.
They originally started in SF but might have production facilities elsewhere now
La Gallinita is fabulous! Go there if only to inhale the intoxicating scent of fresh carnitas, and don’t leave without buying a container of lard from these carnitas! Heaven!
A couple of us stopped in in our 24th Street Food Crawl a couple of weeks ago and got a bag of the chicharrones to pass around.
Sounds like I’m not likely to find something that good around here!
