Another round of pastries from Alma Noma for breakfast.
Pain au chocolat and some kind of caramel pistachio swirl. Very yummy
No dinner last night, the Sara Baras show(spectacular) let out at 10pm, much too late for this geezer to be wolfing down food and drink.
Twas a lovely evening for a walk back to the hotel.
Glad you enjoyed Sara Baras. We’ve crossed oceans just to see her!
While in the hood did you check out Pizza Pronto by Alma Nomad?
Those pastries look divine!
Speaking of pizza, we had a decent one recently at ROOSTIQ in Chueca at Augusto Figueroa 47. Roostiq’s pizzas are supposedly a favorite of David Muñoz of DiverXo.
And there’s the Argentinian PICSA at Ponzano 76 (same street as SDD).
We were very disappointed with the pizzas at Mo de Movimiento but at least it was a very inexpensive meal.
Amazing show! The musicians, dancers and of course Sara were amazing. The front row was a little too close to one of the speakers and the lights could be blinding! . I think you mentioned that I should avoid the front row, but I’d already booked the seat.
I did walk by the location of Pizza Pronto, but couldn’t see anything as it was closed and boarded up until they open at 7pm(?).
Still deciding where to grab my pizza, will check out your suggestions.
Off to Malaga tomorrow, weather looks good there.
After spending the afternoon at the Museo National de Prado , most excellent and only about a 40 minute wait to get in, and a much needed siesta, I headed over to the newly opened Pizza Pronto at the suggestion of Maribel. Got there just after they opened for the evening, bit of a line up but it moved quickly. The team in the kitchen were pumping out pizza like there was no tomorrow. Tons of takeout and dine in, hardly noticed the wait for the pie.
I got the mortadella, fior di latte, pesto de pistachio, espuma de Parmesan, burrata and rúcula.
Amazing pizza and I washed it down with a cold Estrella. What an absolute gold mine they have with the bakery and now this pizza joint.
Bravo to them. If I lived here, I’d visit often, and the nearby park surrounded by restaurants is very cool
Dessert was an overpriced “ice cream “ from a shop near the hotel, hit the spot.
Buenos Dias from beautiful Malaga!!
I’m not going to start a new thread while I’m here, so I’ll just keep posting on this one.
A greeting glass of Cava on the roof top bar/swimming pool of the Hotel Molino Lario to start things off right.
Dinner reservations at Matiz later.
It´s so nice you´re having lovely weather.
We drank and soaked up the views (when it wasn’t pouring buckets!) on that roof top terrace during Holy Week. Perfect location for your wanderings.
My husband loved his baked chivo with béchamel at Matiz.
The pool is a bit small-ish and I didn’t bring my swimming trunks
It’s 26 degrees C right now at 6pm, looks like I’m gonna luck into some great weather.
My nude beach days have long since passed Last time I was at one was Mykonos, 1980.
I’m not much of a swimmer, never have been .
But you know I’ll be dipping my toes into the sea fo sho.
First dinner in Malaga was at Matiz, which is attached to the hotel I’m staying in.
When I booked this hotel, as soon as their bookings opened up, I booked a room with “half board “(something I’ve never done before) because it was such an amazing deal,
in fact it was cheaper to book it this way than to book a smaller room without the half board included . It includes breakfast every day and a choice of either lunch or dinner, being naive , I thought I could choose items from their regular menu, but instead I was handed a limited pre fixed menu.
Anyway, lesson learned and I understand why they do it this way.
Ordered a Negroni to whet my appetite, delicious and potent
Started the meal with Ensaladilla Rusa with tuna belly. Very tasty.
Bog standard seared salmon with sautéed vegetables was next. Also tasty, but it was something I could find at any mid tier restaurant.
I ordered the Canelón de Chivo, goat cannelloni with truffled bechemel , which is a dish they’re famous for.
Very good and the table side preparation was fun.
Dessert was caramelized French toast with crème anglais and lemon sorbet. Delicious, but by then I was stuffed to the gills
The service was a bit helter skelter with long gaps in between dishes and no agua de grifo brought to the table. I’m sure they were overwhelmed on a Sunday night and looked to be short staffed but they were all very friendly and professional.
I’ll check out breakfast later, but I don’t think I’ll go back for dinner.
The breakfast buffet at Matiz is pretty good, the usual suspects. Meats, cheeses, huevos, breads frutas, zumo and the most important thing, coffee.
If I grab something for breakfast there every morning and a lunch or two, I’ll get my monies worth
Food tour coming up soon.
A fun morning/afternoon with the food tour, 4 stops in total.
First stop was the Mercado Central Atarazanas for a drink and of Tinto de Verano (delicious) some fried Padrón peppers, fried artichoke and fried anchovies. Olives and various other treats from another vendor before we headed out. Very cool market, but by 11am it was jammed. Might head over just after opening one morning.
We stopped by El Almacen del Indiano for some vermouth and charcuterie. Cool shop.
Next was the lovely patio of La Gloria, for shrimp pil pil (?) and fried eggplant with sugar cane syrup(?) no photo.
And the last stops name escapes me because it was kinda forgettable. More wine , overcooked patatas Español and a chicken skewer.
All in all it was worth the price of admission, great tour guide, Javi, and the other tour goer’s were pretty cool, except for a couple of duds
Forgot my headphones at the last restaurant, somehow found it in my semi inebriated state, and after some back and forth in broken English and Spanish, they told me Javi the tour guide had them and he was going to drop them off at my hotel
What a champ.
