More of a punching bag than a protector. English setters are beyond mellow. Granddaughter terrorizes him. He just takes it.
If I fits, I sits.
Taught by cat parents to little Mewsettes and little Tomcats down through history.
I can’t imagine a dog meandering past squirrels (or squirrels remaining in that position)…We live with Australian Shepherds who don’t know the concept of meander lol. They approach everything like a freight train.
In my next life I’d like to arrange coming back as my own cat.
Our dear Owen, the 15+# black cat. Such a love and an excellent tongue bath giver. He’s getting older and it is a little harder for him to move around these days. He has a ‘skin tag’ kinda thing under his left eye that the vet keeps wanting to remove. I tell her, ‘How would I recognize him if he were lost without this distinguishing mark?’.

For some reason I can’t quote the part of your post re the skin tag removal proposal (maybe the text is caught up in the formatting of the photo).
But anyway, I agree with you. I’m guessing they’d need to anaesthetize or sedate him, but even if not, why put him through the trauma for something that seems (to me) to be so immaterial?
I don’t think it affects his vision, he’s had it for the 8 years he’s been at our home. When the vet first met him, we were told it was a tumor that had to be removed. Not.
Sounds like maybe the vet had a boat payment to make.
I think it was a kid in college…

My spouse agrees

When my parents would babysit my kitty, who loved to get into the dryer and snuggle in the warm clothes, my late mother would adamantly refuse to remove her. ‘She’ll get up when she wants to!”
Handsome Dude. Probably someone is looking for him!
Would he have been a runaway from the holiday chaos? So many pets get separated from their humans during this time of year. He sure is a cutie, I hope he fares well.
Between the pounding rain and thunder the previous days and the m80 like neighborhood blasts, our cat and the visiting grandcat are totally traumatized. I think the a-holes shooting off their guns and artillery until 2am need to find a better way to spend their leisure time. Pooir pussies😥
What you can’t see is that from the bottom of his ribcage back, his fur is pretty much gone from him biting/chewing at it. He had quite a few fleas on him. An oatmeal/flea bath plus some coconut oil as a salve have cut back on his scratching. He behaves as if somebody really took care of him. Aside from his mangy backside, there are no other outward signs of abuse or neglect, but his skin condition didn’t happen overnight.
That’s what we thought, too, since people around here have been setting off fireworks for about a week now. Yesterday, though, it sounded like a war zone from about 7pm until past midnight, and he didn’t react at all. Didn’t raise his head. Didn’t even open his eyes when he was asleep. Never looked toward (or away) from the sound. No flinching or cowering. Nothing seems to faze him, and he seems curious about everything. Today at the pet store, he followed the floor cleaner (looks like a mini Zamboni) around the store, sniffing at it.
