Carmen (excerpts) on public radio
I’ve been listening to a tribute to Chris Strachwitz, founder of the Arhoolie record label, tonight.
He was a big part of the Berkekey Folk Music festivals among other talents. Mr. Strachwitz recently passed over to the great gig in the sky at the age of 91.
Note the bass player, and Buckaroos’ Tom Bromley taking James Burton’s role:
EC is God!
Counterpoint: EC is an old racist and antivax whackjob.
I like ‘Cocaine’ and ‘Layla’ as much as a the next guy, but he’s put his foot in it a number of times over the course of his career and his good will is just about used up.
Pretty much any nice song is ruined by being played into the ground. And EC is indeed an idiot.
Well, politics be damned, but I like EC. I think we can seperate art from the artist. Most artists are douchy in one way or other.
I will never listen to MJ again, that’s for sure. Thankfully, I’ve never been a huge fan, so it’s not been a hardship.
I feel the same about MJ, but he doesn’t pop up on any of my playlists. I don’t tolerate racists, but I’ve never heard or read that Eric Clapton is racist. I know about the anti-vax stuff, but he had a terrible reaction to the vaccine, and is lucky to still be able to play guitar.
I still listen to Thriller, though that’s at least as much a Quincy Jones/Toto album as a MJ album.
I can’t. I can ignore someone’s political convictions (e.g. Jon Voight is insane, but a fantastic actor in everything I’ve seen him), but not child rape. Nope.
I understand. The EC is God is from long, long ago, and he is not that person anymore.
