Alaska Cruise, departing from Seattle, returning to Vancouver

Next week!

I have been trying to figure out if this warrants a post, given it’s breadth and limitations, but I’m doing it

In Seattle staying at the Fairmont with breakfast and doing a chef led tour at Pikes. I pouted until husband cancelled a chocolate tour the same day. I found a few '24 and '25 Seattle threads, but not many my-family friendly options downtown as I’d like, but we used those and made reservations at Matt’s.

“We” also made reservations for Bao Bei and Homer Street Cafe in Vancouver. I think we are staying at one of the Fairmonts there, or maybe The Georgia, also with breakfast.

We will be traveling the inner passage on Celebrity Edge with excursions in Juneu, Skagway and Ketchikan, and getting ideas from YouTube reviews. Lots of crab legs and salmon!

I would love to know what folks here think.

I took a panhandle cruise in 2005. You’ll love it!

We did Chinese food in Vancouver with our friends who came on the cruise with us, who live in the burbs of Vancouver.

During one of our stops, I can’t remember if it was Skagway or Ketchikan, some of the cruise staff were making a beeline for a food truck. It turns out it was selling fresh local shrimp. Maybe keep an eye on where the staff are headed , or ask for tips from them, when you visit your stops.

I hope you have a wonderful time.

Are you only here for 1 day? Do you know the itinerary of the Market tour? World Spice is good if you need any teas or spices, and husband can do a mini chocolate tour with Fran’s, Indi, and Seleuss.

Two days. We are doing a “Best of Seattle” driving tour the first day. I have the itinerary somewhere, and there is ample chocolate, but I will check for Fran’s, Indi, and Seleuss. Thanks!

Good idea!

They’re all downtown & close to Pike Place Market.

Matt’s at the Market last night; seafood from the Market. A bit spendy, but a nice atmosphere.

Probably as good as I’ve had in a restaurant where fish is usually “over” for my tastes, and I rarely order it. Just a bit dry at the edges, and not thrilled with what seemed to be a chili sauce with the halibut. The corn salad with the salmon was very nice

DIL had a tomato salad and offered the tomatoes weren’t as good as the ones from my garden.

Daughter had a great cheese plate as evidenced by the fact we didn’t get a picture. A mixed salad was great and large enough for three; also no picture.

The buttermilk panna cotta was perfect, the bread pudding “light”, and the ice cream met with approval.

It doesn’t seem Matt’s is as interesting as it used to be judging by the last few reports I’ve seen. When I went, I liked that about them much more than the (albeit warm) atmosphere. It has always been a tourist spot but they gave good value for the money before.

Unfortunately, prices for everything, including rent, have skyrocketed in Seattle in the last ten years or so. It’s a big reason so many restaurants have gone out of business here.

PSA: Never eat tomatoes in Seattle. As someone who grew up in the southern Midwest in farm country, all the fresh produce here is inferior to what you get elsewhere. It just doesn’t get enough sun and warm temperatures.

Oops! The chili sauce, which may have been made from dried chilis, was with the salmon.

Also, nice non alcoholic drinks. I had one with pineapple shrub.

They ran out of the Kougin Amann I went for (they ran out at 3) , but lots of good stuff at Le Panier.

Breakfast at the Fairmont was a good version of eggs Bennie, although the crab meat I chose was just decent.

Good concierge class welcome lunch at Tuscan restaurant on the Celebrity Edge

Dinner at the included French Restaurant (don’t recall the name but I’m sure I will soon) was fine.

Is that how the mushroom soup arrived at your table? At least it tasted good!

Sort of; I guess it looks messy. Remnants of a foam. I don’t usually eat much soup but the lentil one at lunch was good and this weather put me in the mood.

The whole family is enjoying the trip, including service, meals.

Breakfast at the buffet on the ship. Mostly fine except for something labeled a frittata.

Dinner at the included French Restaurant Normandy

Various starters
Pate was ordered by daughter

A mezze

I enjoyed the Baked Brie

Husband said corn soup didn’t taste enough like corn

Lambchop (doesn’t look like a chop), pork chop,

Specialty restaurant “Rooftop Grill” on Celebrity Edge. There was a driving rain last night, and this is a rooftop, outdoor restaurant, so we changed it to tonight.

In no particular order, sliders, wings, and something with tortilla chips for starters, burgers and fries, branzino (grilled), New York strip and rib eye.

A warm chocolate chip cookie

And peach cobbler for dessert

So far we have found the food to be better than expected, and tonight even better.

Enjoying your review! We did Alaska on Celebrity (Eclipse) a couple of years ago and we’re booked for the Norwegian Fjords in 2027 on Apex. It will be our first time on an Edge class ship so I’m happy to hear the food has been good for you so far!

You’re welcome! I was a bit worried after some opinions on YouTube, but it’s been more than fine. I had a good made to order omelette at the buffet this morning, and hope to have another.

We are in a fijord right now (or so I’ve been told. I don’t really know what a fijord is) ! Departing Skagway, with a view from the back of the ship in Eden. Live music in the background.
