Childhood sweet treats

These were my weakness.

You got me thinking about branded treats, and I now fondly recall the Stella D’Oro cookies. I really enjoyed the long ones where the box had half yellow/vanilla flavor and the other half chocolate. Also their little yellow flower shaped flowers that had a chocolate fudge center. Marvelous!

In retrospect I am wondering if the flavor was actually reminiscent of almonds! Do kids like almonds?

Apparently I’ve always been into “nuts” ( no pun intended) !

Well, kids seem to like Almond Joy, Mounds and Almond Roca … and even Snickers with Almonds.

Dang …

We didn’t have an ice cream truck that cruised our childhood neighborhood but at our grandmother’s apartment in LA, all the kids (all shapes, sizes and hues) in the aves there swarmed the frozen confectionery truck until one day, one summer. That was the day one of the mom’s came along and discovered he was exposing himself to all of us. Us kids never noticed and as far as I know he never made any untoward contact with us. That kinda spoiled the whole ice cream truck experience for us. We never saw him again and who knows if he just skipped our neighborhood on his afternoon route.

I want to say something about the horribleness of that predatory scum doing that to children, but I’m too angry about it to come up with anything cohesive or intelligent.

Scarred for life from someone exposing themselves which none of the kids EVER noticed?

Huh.

Well, he was using his ice cream truck to attract children so he could expose himself to them. The intent is what I’m mad about. It takes predatory behavior to another level.

I do think it’s hilarious that none of the kids noticed he was exposing himself to them.

I feel like there were more exhibitionists around in my youth. The ones I encountered usually got a giggle at the most. No trauma here (not from that, at least).
