I prefer thinner fries, ketchup, mayo/horseradish or aioli. The only curly fries I liked were from Trader Dick’s in Sparks, Nevada. Perfect crispy potato springs.
I like them all, but I like waffle fries, steak fries, and those thick wedge shaped fries least. Favorites are crinkle cut fries (which unfortunately are almost always undercooked when I order them somewhere) and fairly thin fries but not so thin as shoestring fries. I like fries of the type Five Guys sells, but those decline in appeal faster than other types as they cool. I like some seasoned fries better than others and for some reason prefer to eat those without ketchup more than with. I like tater tots but don’t consider them to be fries. I don’t consider them to be bite-sized hash browns, but then I don’t consider the slab shaped things with tater tot texture to be real hash browns either even if that’s what they’re called on the menu.
I like most fries, with the exception of crinkle cut. Texture doesn’t work for me and they never seem to be properly cooked/salted. Shoestring would be my next-least favorite - I need more of that soft pillowy center. Tater tots are delicious but are not fries, same for sweet potato fries. And I’ll go against the crowd and say I love curly fries and waffle fries almost universally - their tendency to be less than crispy doesn’t bother me at all.
Toppings or dips are both okay by me, though I prefer to dip. Just keep the ketchup FAR away. FAR.
the variety of potato and frying skill are more important to me than the cut. I like them all.
I like waffle fries, which I don’t see foo often.
If tots are allowed, then pommes dauphine should be as well (mixed with pate choux, shaped and fried). And pommes souffles. ![]()
also, potato croquettes
Sorry, that does not look enjoyable. Perhaps I meant an edible French fry casserole. ![]()
Abomination or worth a try?

As our terrier said before we gave her her first bath, “That’s a terrible idea.”
The best fries are the ones I have in front of me at any given time. Unless they’re sweet potato fries, which are crap even at their best.
