Michelin 2025 [Toronto]

The updated list is scheduled for mid-week.
Any speculation on ‘new or improved’ awards?

Based on recent visits I assess
aKin
FK restaurant
Lucie

as all performing to a level that may warrant a star (although I doubt whether we’ll get more than 1 new entry to join the current 13 starred places).

You mean Toronto and Region … 16 at the moment … LOL

I’m more interested in the Bibs …

Pearl Morissette upped to two stars, Sushi Masaki Saito loses a star (from two to one), aKin gets one star.

6 new Bibs, several outside of Toronto: 7 Enoteca (Oakville), Barrel Heart Brewing (Dundas), Mhel, Ricky + Olivia, Sundays (Uxbridge), and The Cottage Cheese.

LSL, Linny’s, and Sammarco are on the “recommended” list.

The Cottage Cheese is a weird pick. I hadn’t taken it seriously.

I live nearby and I haven’t been. I thought it looked like it was an average Indian restaurant in Kensington Market, with a mostly 20something date night client base.

Thanks for sharing. I wouldn’t go by this guide for certain types of cuisines for sure.

Big mystery to me is why Langdon Hall still doesn’t have a star. aKin was just ok for me but I went beginning of this year and maybe they have improved.

Hasn’t George also been ignored?

I like Scaramouche a lot more than some other places getting a nod.

I haven’t tried most of the new ones, so I can’t really comment. Mhel was really good and we also liked Ricky + Olivia.

I agree with the comments above that given the list of restaurants with one star, that Langdon Hall and George should also have a star at very least.

Mhel considered a Bib??
I thought it’s quite expensive to have meals there.

It is expensive. They seem to be very loose with their definition of a Bib. They awarded Grey Gardens with a Bib in the past, which also is fairly expensive.

" Sunday’s "!! Yippee!! Finally a Bib and a Green star up north, fairly close to my place!!..more importantly, no rush hour Don Valley traffic!! Ha!! :winking_face_with_tongue: :+1:

Dear Michelin,
Please stay out of Durham Region. Its hard enough getting a reservation there.

Another one of those lists

Interesting neither ALO nor EDULIS is on the list!!
I recently ate at #50 BEBA and found the food So-So…IMO, for something executed differently, PINE is better!

Can’t say I agree with the whole list but have to say Taniere and Pearl Morissette are the best restaurants in Canada for me at the moment

We’ve only eaten at a handful of this list, so it is hard to comment fully. I do find it a bit odd that Quetzal and Mhel are on this list - both are very good, but neither would strike be as best in North America.

For the Bay Area, while I agree that Benu and Quince are great, I’m surprised they are on the list and French Laundry isn’t.

And why no Mexico? It is part of North America (as is technically the Caribbean and Central America). Surely a few Mexican restaurants would be in the running for this list also.

French Laundry is not eligible to be on the list since they have won World No 1 already. Eleven Madison Park is the other restaurants that is not eligible for the same reason.

Mexico is excluded since it is already part of Latin America 50 Best list

I do agree about Mhel and Quetzal. No idea why they belong on the list. Plenty of better restaurants in Canada or US that are more deserving

Thanks for clarifying about some of the rules for these lists.

I was just thinking this exact thing the other day, so to say I wholeheartedly agree with this article is understatement. I grew up in the transformative era when immigration changed everything… for the better.

I feel that in the absence of local restaurant critics, Michelin and corporate restaurants are getting away with a big ruse at our expense. I have great hope that Suresh Doss’ Locals Welcome on CBC TV will do a far better of reflecting who we are. We are distinct from every other nation. This is where my pride comes from.
