NJ.com published The Jersey Shore Ice Cream Trail… my only objection is Day’s, as they don’t make their own; it’s all about the old-time vibe there, imo. I don’t know about many of the others south of me (Monmouth) but I know my other favorites are making their flavors in-house.
I heard more than a rumor that Chef Zod Arifai is back in Montclair… can’t find a thing about this online but the info came via someone who was at a tasting ‘for his new place.’ Anyone else heard this or have more intel?? Zod is a phenomenally talented and creative chef and I was sad when Blu and Next Door closed when I was still living in NNJ.
Don’t forget “The Duke and The Elephant” stint in Martinsville!
Oh, I was there more than a few times…! And then he was in NYC at Wicked Jane.
Ha, I have nowhere to put this but it made me think of you Curlz
Thai Streat, the restaurant replacing Thai Thai on Route 516 in Old Bridge, now has a web page with the usual promo material but no real information: thaistreat.com
Love it!!
From NJ monthly:
Italiana, Montclair
Zod Arifai, the former owner of the popular restaurants Blu, Next Door and Wicked Jane, is set to open this new elevated Italian restaurant in October. Pizza, pasta and desserts will all be made in house.
This is exciting news! I miss Blu.
No address was given.
It will be at 558 Bloomfield, the former Fiammella wood fired pizza and italian
From NJ.com:
Meximodo, a Guinness World Record holder for the largest collection of tequila bottles on the planet, is set to open two more locations in the state.
The Marlboro location will be at 133 South Main Street on Route 79 – replacing the former Fireside Grill & Bar and Bad Hat Dumplings and Cocktails that once shared the building.
For Parsippany, the restaurant will be stationed at District1515, a luxury residential and retail area located off Route 10.
The current location is in Metuchen.
Just read the August issue of NJ Monthly, and found this article about the TwoCents app VERY interesting. I know I rarely if ever feel the need to post negative info about a restaurant publicly (outside of this site), and I think this is a great option. If ever there was a group who might offer constructive criticism, it’s us! And you can do it anonymously if you choose to.
The founders are from Montclair but they’re obviously building their restaurant list so hopefully it will grow (there are only a couple of AP restaurants on there right now).
Just back from a “Jar of Hope” fundraiser at the Suneagles/Tillinghouse/ Eagle and Ember complex in Tinton Falls I think, maybe Eatontown? Well anyways it was awesome. All involved put in their best effort. And all involved are amongst the best. The roster…
For those in/near Asbury Park who haven’t heard, there’s a new ownership group for the former Asbury Festhalle & Biergarden, a place that many of us have sorely missed since the big flood of 2023.
The new spot will be called Asbury Social and the group that purchased the place also runs House of Independence on Cookman Ave (our downtown main drag). They say it will be a steak and seafood place. They’ve just started demolishing a lot of the rooftop flooring and the interior over the past week, so this definitely isn’t a ‘Coming Soon’ announcement.
And in Ocean Grove news, Nagles is coming back next year
Omg I can’t believe nobody has posted about that!! Very good news.

I usually post negative comments about AP
I had to attend to some old business and decided to walk the boardwalk to unwind
I decided to try Cousins Maine Lobster
It was pretty good I had a nice portion of fish & chips with both fish and fries being perfectly cooked No malt vinegar but the tartar sauce was good Got free parking so it wasn’t too bad a day
Oof that sounds terrible. How generous of them to offer you a whole 10% off!
What do you mean, the eating experience was fine, it’s AP & it’s ridiculous off season parking I have an issue with no 10% discounts I got FREE Parking resulted from the inconvenience of my previous business there.
Hope all is well and let’s go get something to eat soon
I will be leaving for Mexico soon in search of a new home so stay in touch
BTW heard from the owner of Maine Lobster and they said that it was an oversight of their company to not provide malt vinegar and it will be available asap According to them it is not something their customers frequently use
