I was talking about your experience at DaRosario. I’d love for an eating meet! Perhaps it’s time for another HODown it’s been a while!! Are you moving to Mexico???
It’s time for another HO Down, I am going down to La Paz 10/8 looking at some things that seem to work.
Meeting with broker and others to see what if it is a good fit. Would prefer Tuscany but it’s too complicated.
As for as Rosario fuhgedaboutit ![]()
Marlboro off 79 & 520 Nothing special here except a new Wonder shop, where you can get pizza, a old school pizza shop which has been there at least 20 years and then I see a giant banner in a 3rd storefront announcing that Brooklyn Square pizza coming soon
Can someone explain to me why this is a good idea ? Old school shop does a decent pie and seems busy
Brooklyn square is a name spot. They got a very high rating on barstool and looks to be expanding around. They opened a spot in Bradley beach. A small town with two very well known pizza spots. There is already a Brooklyn square in manalapan too. I guess they must be making money though if they are opening them? Unless it’s a low key way to cash in on franchising ( see bubakoo burritos for an example)
Doesn’t make sense to me..3 places selling pizza in one spot I know Marlboro people like their branded consumer products as I once lived there seems like a cash grab by the landlord or he’s trying to push out the long time pizza place.
Brooklyn Square replaced an old BB spot. Not sure how good it was but it was. Is that one of the two Bradley spots you mention? I’m assuming Vics is one.
As an aside, Skratch Kitchen next door is one of my favorite spots.
Del pontes was the other big pizza spot over there. And in reality there’s a pretty good spot on Avon as well as Pete and Elsa a few min away ha! I have seen not great reviews for the Brooklyn square in BB so far. I keep meaning to try it but Vic’s is my fav locally so really just end up there.
I need to try scratch. It looks great.
Ah - Thanks. I never think of Del Ponte’s - it will always be a baery to me. Plus I think they also pushed out a pizzeria tenant so they could open their own.
Vic’s RULES!!. We went there once after the movies and there was table full of monks/friars - full-on robes, rope belts and huge crosses - eating pizza and drinking pitchers.
I’d be more than happy to meet you for dinner at Skratch any time.
A) I did not know that about skratch kitchen! I’ve never tried it! I’ll make a point of getting there.
B) As I recall, Brooklyn Square went into BB in partnership with the people who owned that pizzeria. They made a lot of noise about it when it was first announced because the owner kept saying they would still continue to donate a portion of their proceeds to animal rescues. So it’s possible that it’s a franchise or partnership situation…
We finally got to Skratch about a month and a half ago, it was very good.
Starting to smell a HOdown…
I’m going to admit that I have been going to Vic’s for over 50 years obviously I think it’s a great pizza place
HOWEVER Brooklyn Square has always claimed to be just like Spumoni Gardens ( L& B) to the uninitiated because L&B is simply a place unto themselves Absolutely amazing pizza there is no doubt about it I make a mini of 1 trip a week every month for over 60 years There’s no better chicken parmigiana any where else
as well Great spumoni too!
HO down here will blow your mind
BTW L&B is in Brooklyn
Couldn’t agree more. L&B is great. Brooklyn doesn’t come close.
So it’s been a day that wasn’t particularly good so I needed comfort food
PIZZA for dinner, I have been fascinated by the concept of Wonder in Marlboro with a Detroit style pizza that I never had before and Di Fara ( the legendary pizza place)
The Detroit pizza was meh but the Di Fara was really good I did throw it in the oven for a bit but it was really good
The fresh basil really made it better than most other pizza places around With all due respect to the Bob Father I wouldn’t try the Detroit style pizza again but I would really recommend the Di Fara once in awhile No picture of the Detroit style it’s not wothy
I answered their survey and based on my answers they refunded me the price of the Detroit pizza.pretty impressive
Sorry to hear this news. Hope they are back soon. Really wish that the Heirloom restaurant group offered a universal gift card good at all their locations. I unknowingly once tried to use an Heirloom gift card at the St. Laurent only to be advised it could not be used there. Might be helpful for those holding Lita gift cards to be able to use them at another of their restaurants.
Abramzon & David’s Delicatesse Closes
" Abramzon & David’s Delicatesse, a sandwich shop [owned by David Viana] that opened this past May in the same Old Bridge complex as Viana’s exalted Heirloom Kitchen, closed its doors this past weekend. …The closure comes five months after the deli opened."
The location is terrible–I pass it at least once a week and never knew it was there.
This is the first I’ve heard of it. They certainly didn’t do much if any publicity via print or social media.
Have to disagree; it’s been all over their social media (Instagram, at least).
