At the resident summer camps I attended and later worked at, Jolly Rancher sticks were a big seller at the canteens. We’d go there after lunch and before ‘rest time’ and load up because we had only two visits per week. The sour apple JRs always sold out. I think the Lik-M-Aid, Chick-O-Sticks, Spree and the Hot Tamale candies were in the top 5. Of course, the JR would take longer than a rest time period to consume.

Country Eggs, LLC of Lucerne Valley, CA is recalling our LARGE BROWN CAGE FREE SUNSHINE YOLKS because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. in rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections ( ie… infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The LARGE BROWN CAGE FREE SUNSHINE were distributed in California and Nevada. Product was delivered to grocery stores and food service distributors.

CBS reports:
Costco is recalling its Kirkland brand Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene, warning that bottles of the sparkling wine could deliver a different sort of pop than customers are used to.
The discount chain said unopened bottles of the wine could shatter before being handled or used, according to a recall notice posted on its website. The prosecco, marketed under Costco’s private label, was sold in 12 states between April 25 and August 26. The states include Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
In the notice, Costco advised customers who have purchased the prosecco not to open it and to place it in paper towels or a plastic bag before disposing of it.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Costco did not say if any injuries had been reported as a result of bottles of the prosecco shattering.
Costco said customers who purchased the product can obtain a full refund by presenting the recall letter at their nearest store. Not a warning, but an interesting observation by the CDC by way of the NY Times:
In the last decade, according to the C.D.C., there have been only two outbreaks of food-borne illness connected to the raw fish in sushi; in the same period, there have been dozens from poultry and beef.<

A study shows high levels of salmonella in poultry products (in California, but probably everywhere else in the US).

I was surprised at the allowable levels: “For ground chicken, the USDA allows for 25% of samples to be contaminated. For chicken parts, it’s 15.4% and for ground turkey it’s 13.5%. When it comes to whole chickens, the number is 9.8%.” I think I’ll avoid ground chicken…
