Trader Joe’s Product Reviews – YEA/NAY/MEH – 2025 Edition

Honestly, we’re always so full. I’m so tired from all the work that I usually have almost no appetite for dinner.

Last year Costco manager gave me a pumpkin pie. I made delicious whipped cream, had one big bite. Later I found out my daughter gave the rest of that pie to a guest. I would have enjoyed some the next day!

Whenever we go out for a nice meal there’s hardly ever room for dessert. On the rare occasion an offering sounds too great to pass up, we split it.

At Original Joe’s Westlake SF recently we ordered one Tiramisu with 5 spoons. It was just right. 2 guests were visiting from India and they’d never had tiramisu before! Loved it.

Yeah, we’ve shared a dessert or two between a table of 6 before. I just don’t need a lot of sweet stuff, especially if I’m pleasantly sated by the savories I’ve had already.

Be aware these need to defrost/proof for 5 to 7 hours first. Good item to set out before bedtime and then bake first thing in the AM. I’m pretty sure a longer proofing will still work with it.

YEA to the Boozy Bottles, 9 little dark chocolate bottles filled with Cognac. Just enough of a hit to make dessert interesting. :slightly_smiling_face:

This is what I did last Friday night with two friends - a single Vanilla Crème Brûlée 3 spoons. The few bites we each had was perfect for all of us.

We’re usually too full for dessert, but if there is a really good dessert on the menu, we will have it to go. By the time we have finished our 1 hour drive home, and get changed, we manage to find some room for dessert

That was our MO in Philly. One of the places that became a bit of a regular stop for us makes a ridiculously delicious and ginormous tahini butter cake with espresso ganache frosting. There has never been a dinner where even a spoon would’ve been out of the question… BUT, take it home and have a few forks 2 hours later?

Perfect!

I never thought I’d find anything saltier than Fritos until I ate TJs dippers. Can’t taste anything other than salt. (And I love salt.)

Sorry, that should actually say tahini buttercream cake. There. Now it makes sense

NAY will return.

Pane Guttiau paper thin Sardinian crackers

Somehow I thought these would be like those expensive “Inez”? ones I’ve bought elsewhere. I can’t really remember the name right now.

Dry, messy, very plain but 160 calories for 2 and 15% for sodium.

Yay for the dark chocolate mint cremes. HUGE NAY for the insane crowds at the Hartsdale, NY location today. Holy shit. It felt like NYE in Times Square. Fortunately everyone was rollicking in the aisles, not at the checkouts, so once I waded through the masses and grabbed the mint cremes (and a couple of tubs of the dark chocolate PB cups, because why not?), I was out of there in no time.

Omg that location is always insanity!

Mild YAY for the Korean Yangnyeom Sauce. It’s pretty decent as far as sweet/soy-based pan-Asian sauces go – and I have tried quite a few of them. It’s sweet, salty, tangy, just a hint of spice. Can put it on just about anything. I used it earlier to sauce some baked chicken tenders that I ate with rice and was pleased with the result.

In terms of common brands, I’d rate the TJ’s one around the same level as the original-recipe Bachan’s: maybe a bit too sweet, certainly serviceable and tasty enough. Not quite as complex as the Momofuku line. However, very well priced as compared to both Bachan’s and Momofuku. I’d buy it again.

Used to love to hit tjs, hmart and then lunch at the hmart food court. Unfortunately, at some point, the hmart food court became as expensive as sitting in a restaurant. My sense was that there were some interesting, unexplored joints on central ave.

OTS. If you want a good sandwich, a place opened in Scarsdale called “The Press”. Expensive but at least very good. I think one of the owners ia also a partner in One Rare steakhouse - the old Zachy’s location.

YEA for the Thai bird’s eye chile hot sauce. Nice heat level, flavorful. I only tried it “as is” but look forward to using it in my next hot dish

Also almost picked these up

but hadn’t remembered @janeh9’s glowing review of them. Next time!

Does anyone have intel on these?

I was afraid it might be too hot for me …

Use less
