Netflix recommended Cells at Work! to us. We didn’t know it when we watched it, but it’s based on a manga, mostly about a RBC and WBC as they move around the body doing their respective jobs, interacting with each other now and then. As we watched it, we figured it must have been a production to teach kids (maybe middle schoolers) about how the body works. It was fun and strange. The strangest part had to be the poop sequence, which defies description. The platelets were adorable, too.
An emphatic ‘yes’ if you like poop humor - that part was hilarious. Or if you like watching edutainment. I generally steer clear of manga, so had I known it was based on a manga series I would probably not have watched it, but I wouldn’t say I regret it. I also don’t think we’ll be watching it again, so there’s that, but it’s not like I feel like I wasted the evening on it. It was mostly mindless but entertainingly so.
Last night, appropriately Sunday, we watched the Ed Sullivan documentary, Sunday Best, on Netflix. I had no idea that he was a champion of many Black artists. Really enjoyed it.
Next up will be The New Yorker at 100, also on Netflix. I’m looking forward to that. In high school (Mill Valley in the late 60s), I was known for having my own subscription.
We finished the first season last night. I was falling asleep intermittently during the final episode, so my PIC will have to fill in the blanks. We look forward to the second season, but one thing I found incredibly annoying was just how often DI Carey seemed close to tears.
Has anybody seen the 2023/24 Hulu series Accused? We started watching it tonight. Each episode is a different story of someone charged with a crime. We thought sea1/Ep 1 was very good. Somehow we then watched Sea 1/Ep 7 and thought it was not as compelling. It’s gotten good reviews as a series though, so we’ll probably watch more.
