What are you watching? - 2025

I watched Accused when it was on Fox. I enjoyed it. Some episodes were better than others.

In the aftermath of the sad news about Rob Reiner I found out that not one, not two, not three, no — FOUR of my gal pals have never watched When Harry Met Sally :scream::scream::scream:

HOW is that even possible??? In any event, I’m hosting a screening between xmas and NYE to remedy this terrible omission, and I am super-excited to introduce them to one of my favorite Rob Reiner flicks (or at least tied with Spinal Tap)

Are you going to serve “Deli” style food at this party??

An homage to that scene in the movie…

Make sure you spit grape seeds at a window at some point.

And make sure to serve the dressing on the side.

The other day, NPR re-ran the interview Terry Gross did with Rob Reiner earlier this year for her program Fresh Air, and they talked about the deli scene. It turns out that Estelle Reiner’s line (“I’ll have…”) was written by Billy Crystal. While they were rehearsing in the deli, Meg Ryan seemed to be holding back, so Rob Reiner had her get out of the chair, and Reiner sat across from Crystal to run through the scene. He does not hold back, moaning, sighing, and pounding the table. He turns to Meg Ryan to make sure she gets it, then leans across the table and says to Billy Crystal sotto voce, “Oh my god, I faked an orgasm in front of MY MOM!”

Make that FIVE of my friends. Whatttttt.

Just stopped by the bakery to pick up proper bread for Cubanos tonight. They didn’t have any, but we gladly took the ciabatta my GF gifted us, and when I asked if she was going to join us in a couple of weeks, she revealed that the movie had been recommended to her many times, but that she had not watched it yet, either.

I’m shocked. I need better friends

I think they need you  Someone to spread the Rob Reiner word. I didn’t realize how many of his films I’ve seen until he passed.

We need each other — that’s why we’re such a fabulously supportive group

I won’t hold it against them, and I love being able to show them what they’ve been missing

You don’t have to be a bourbon connoisseur to appreciate Jim Gaffigan’s newest special on youtube, but it might help. I am decidedly not, yet still enjoyed a few laughs here and there.

Not his strongest performance by any means, and he’s joined the legions of celebs who have been jumping on the diet drug train: 50lbs down :scream:

Just finished House of Guinness and they definitely set up ending for a second season. I liked it and enjoyed the Irish history lesson ( my dad was born in Ireland) but hope they make it less murky next season. Also it’s so depressing watching these never ending battles between religions-I couldn’t tell you the difference between being a catholic or Protestant if my life depended on it.

I had heard the line, “…I’ll have what she’s having…” came straight from Reiner’s mother.

If true, Rob snatched the credit from his mom and give it to Billy Crystal!

Sectarian politics are about more than religious difference in Ireland. These are deeply fused to political and national positions, and are more markers of politics, culture, and social position than belief. It’s more than a religious dispute.

And I have a bunch of jokes to make about how I (a Jew) can tell (here in Scotland) but I think the jokes wouldn’t land here with a very American audience.

I’m also going to gently suggest you not rely on this programme for learning history. It has many (Irish) critics.

Looking forward to this. Particularly for the Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders reunion. Has the potential to be Absolutely Fabulous, darling.

I refer to Derry Girls for that info.
