Ate our weight in Brazilian food at Panela de Barro in Waltham, MA, where you pay by weight of plate. These 2 plates came to about $75. We’d walked about 3.5 miles to get there, so I feel like we earned it. The feijoada was really good - lots of pork parts. I found pigtail and ear in my portion! Also enjoyed the chicken hearts and garlic beef.

Iraqi food after a long walk through town with roughly 2K of our closest friends ![]()
Ish took forEVAH to come out, but the falafel was just as great as I remembered from our first visit.
Lamb pide was pretty unremarkable. Very cheesy, lil light on tha meatz.
Still don’t understand the point of the sauce that comes with it, either. Like a green aioli. Meh.
Our friends got the baba ganoush with freshly baked sesame flatbread,
two lamb shish kebab wraps, and chicken shish taouk over that lovely saffron rice.
Much as I love supporting a local business, until they get more staff or their shit together, I won’t be back. Just not worth the wait, even for the falafel.
In the style of an Italian tramezzino, thinly sliced bread filled with minced grilled eggplant, tomatoes, peppers, a splash of balsamic and evoo. A few leaves of minced basil and some peperoncini found their way in there along with thinly sliced mozzarella. And I’m very happy that I have enough eggplant for another round tomorrow!
Home from our trip to Vancouver WA. Lunch after errands was at Pete’s Bar & Grill.. Thai food. We had Crispy Spring Rolls as an appetizer and then garlic, black pepper chicken stir fry with rice as a main. Sister had som tam as her main. I asked for 4 out of 5 heat and they thought nope. Not this old lady. Was very mild in the heat department but very tasty. Service was very attentive and kind. Highly recommend.
Interesting name for a Thai restaurant - with that name one would more expect a bbq or burger place
I agree, on both points. I have sometimes picked up a soup on a cold day, and have always been disappointed as they tend to load them with black pepper. The first two spoons are great, but then the heat from the pepper hits you
I imagine Pete would disagree.
Looks like you cut up a bagel and put it on another bagel.
Chicken breast on the bone, a little jus from the roasting pan, sauteed peppers and a dinner roll. This was a case of my eyes being bigger than my belly, I ate half the chicken breast and half the roll. The remaining chicken got shredded for a chix salad sandwich tomorrow.
You need new glasses?
Probably, but that cut-up (I think?) turkey looks like bread.
Sure it does..
and it’s rotisserie chicken.
Oh, have it your way! But if you told me it was bread, I’d believe it.
Another decidedly disappointing meal. I met a dear friend at a newish Middle Eastern place for lunch. I stirred her away from the Indian section of the menu, which is very clearly not their forte, given our recent takeout experience.
Well, Middle Eastern / allegedly Lebanese isn’t either. She got some lamb and beef dish served in pita bread with lukewarm fries & a dip I didn’t bother trying. The lamb & beef patty was thin, dry, and fairly tasteless.
I ordered the chicken livers “with onion, pepper, spices and pomegranate.” I was expecting Sawdeh, a dish I generally love: plump, tender chicken livers braised in a luscious gravy with pomegranate molasses.
These were cooked to death, rendering them dry AF despite sitting in a pool of oil, and were merely topped with a few pom arils. It was also lacking seasoning.
Sadly, another place to take off our list.
I think I’ve got the story straight. There is another Thai restaurant in Brookings and the main guy left that place and set up shop in a preexisting business. Food at original Thai place has gone downhill so we tried this one. Very good food and service and it appears that they also have live entertainment. Cute decor. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
