Delivery from Olympic in Lowell. I’d heard them recommended several times before realizing that despite the name, they’re a Cambodian place – and a Cambodian restaurant that delivers to us is a huge find.
If today is representative, they’re excellent. The egg soda is a little less rich than at Simply Khmer (our go-to, if only because it’s easier to get to than Red Rose), but that’s balanced out by the fact that the spicy wings are flavorful enough and tender enough that even my wife, normally a wing-hater, loved them. They’re also VERY saucy, like I needed to wash my hands and get a new napkin after three wing flats saucy.
We also got sadao salad—also known as neem flower, it tastes kind of like a cross between raw broccoli and aspirin, and is dressed much like laab/larb/laph, with onion, basil, toasted rice, etc—which I have to get every time it’s on a menu, though I top out after a small portion.
Lemongrass beef—very good, pretty spicy, a little heavy on the bell peppers but the beef is super tender.
A little bit of a gamble to order delivery from two towns away on a rainy day, but it definitely paid off, and Lord, these leftovers will be at least another two meals.
Tilly had a little shredded up shrimp from a spring roll that had burst open.
Thanks for the reminder… I need to dye and cut Sunshine’s hair before Christmas.
It looks like Tuesday is the day. I’ll dawn my “Clement - French Hair Dresser to the Stars” persona and do my best Pepe Le Pew accent while I “pretty up” my Sunshine’s hair.
Company Creamed Tuna over a pair of split Grands biscuits. Even with sliced almonds garnish, this is not at all photogenic - just really, really, tasty with the stir-ins of sour cream, white wine and parsley. On the side, our favorite bag salad - Sunflower Crisp chopped . Christmas cookie desserts.
Skillet cooked salmon, with a half recipe of a brown rice grain side featuring sauteed sliced zucchini and halloumi cheese, with a sherry vinegar/oil dressing and dried apricots & pistachios - riff from this. https://www.purewow.com/recipes/freekeh-show
I met up with a silent book club yesterday afternoon. The session took place in a restaurant and we started with a little chit chat. We were pretty chatty for a silent book club! But that’s what happens when you put a bunch of book lovers in the same room When we got settled we placed our orders mostly for the beverage of their choice and a few ordered meals. Since it was a cold blustery day yesterday I settled for hot chocolate with whipped cream. The whipped cream was good! The hot chocolate on the other hand was watery. When our reading session was over, we went around the table introducing ourselves and we told the group about the books we are reading. I have now added a couple more books added to my “to read” list so I now have close to 320 titles on my list. I better get on it!
Chicken cutlet, radicchio, vinaigrette…couldn’t quite squeeze it in to the pita bread. A small cup of bean/cabbage soup,
and a couple of pistachio/almond soft Amaretti cookies for dessert.
