What's on your mind? (2025) - good way to start... even if a bit early... :-)

I think I fractured my left fibular head. Old Dog (15+, springer spaniel and Lab mix), while senile, still seems to be clairvoyant and has the ability to surprise you by being where you are going to be at any given time, usually in a way that causes you to skip/stumble so as not to step on him.

Heading to plate some lamb chops at the table, still in the smoking hot pan, and suddenly Old Dog appeared before me (maybe it’s teleportation instead of clairvoyance?) and I tripped on him and cracked my leg “bang!” into the edge/ridge of the chair seat. But although I got some hot oil splashed about, I didn’t get burned and didn’t lose any of the chops to the floor, although one did a nice hockey puck slide across the table.

It hurt a lot last night but this morning I could barely walk when I first got up. But the pain subsides as I walk a bit. The good news is, I don’t have an ankle anymore on that leg anyway (total fusion about 15 years ago), so my fibula, or what remains of it now(*), is completely superfluous.

I didn’t tell my wife about it.

(*) Since they couldn’t fix the fibula, they gave up on it and the surgeon said it would slowly just fade away over time. He didn’t say how much time, and I haven’t had that leg x-rayed since 2012, so I don’t know how much is left, other than the head is definitely still present to palpation (before this most recent “insult” to it).
