What's on your mind? (2025) - good way to start... even if a bit early... :-)

One December I said to a Filipina named Joy, ‘They’re singing above you” (okay, I know it’s a groaner!). I was surprised when she responded that in the Philippines they start playing Christmas Carols in September!

Wow!

Actually, she didn’t have a whole lot to say about.that. Other than “I could practically hear Elvis sigh with relief.” When the marriage was over.
Several snippets from the book were in the news today. The main central characters she talks about are dead. Her book comes out tomorrow. I’ll be waiting in line just like you for an autographed copy. :slightly_smiling_face:

I think many people in the Caribbean start soaking dried fruit in rum, for their Xmas black cake, around now.

One of my late sisters used to do that as well; she was a great baker. One Christmas season her son-in-law (a teetotaler) overindulged in cake and couldn’t fathom why he fell asleep until he was told what was in the cake.

A late night Q., I’m not one to beat around the bush. Has anyone here tried Plexidern? Just wondering if it really works.

My PT today suggested that I might need shoulder surgery before my collarbone detaches itself entirely from my scapula :scream:

No amount of strength training will be able to fix it — yet another fabulously delayed consequence of a 3 year old injury, when I fell and tore a ligament. Naturally, this happened on a weekend, so off to the ER we went, got a sleeve, and that was that. No surgery required at the time.

Obviously, I am going to get a second opinion from an actual orthopedic doctor as soon as I can, which will presumably require a new MRI $$$$, but…

I swearz the right half of my body can kindly F off for good. Srsly.

I’m looking for a group rate at the Bionic Ballerina shop. Actually, I’m looking for the Bionic Ballerina shop too, but life is a quest …

I think I fractured my left fibular head. Old Dog (15+, springer spaniel and Lab mix), while senile, still seems to be clairvoyant and has the ability to surprise you by being where you are going to be at any given time, usually in a way that causes you to skip/stumble so as not to step on him.

Heading to plate some lamb chops at the table, still in the smoking hot pan, and suddenly Old Dog appeared before me (maybe it’s teleportation instead of clairvoyance?) and I tripped on him and cracked my leg “bang!” into the edge/ridge of the chair seat. But although I got some hot oil splashed about, I didn’t get burned and didn’t lose any of the chops to the floor, although one did a nice hockey puck slide across the table.

It hurt a lot last night but this morning I could barely walk when I first got up. But the pain subsides as I walk a bit. The good news is, I don’t have an ankle anymore on that leg anyway (total fusion about 15 years ago), so my fibula, or what remains of it now(*), is completely superfluous.

I didn’t tell my wife about it.

(*) Since they couldn’t fix the fibula, they gave up on it and the surgeon said it would slowly just fade away over time. He didn’t say how much time, and I haven’t had that leg x-rayed since 2012, so I don’t know how much is left, other than the head is definitely still present to palpation (before this most recent “insult” to it).

Have you tried icing it?

Yeah last night and earlier today. I’m a big proponent of icing in the first 24 hours.

Why oh why is it that when you get a new car, or a new-to-you car, BAM! a rock chip christens the windshield within 3 or so months? Every freakin’ car I’ve owned has had that affliction.

I had a bro-dozer back into my new-to-me Mazda literally a month after bringing it home. Thankfully, cosmetic damage only, but still..
