What's on your mind? (2025) - good way to start... even if a bit early... :-)

Yes, I have an old (adjustable) wrist brace (from when I worked and had to 10 key a lot). I know I saved it in a box, somewhere. I’ll dig it out, clean it up and put it on her wrist.

Glad she’s mostly okay, but what a scare.

Clever idea on the whistle — I might borrow it. My mom has a battery-operated bell with a switch she keeps with her, and the bell part sits outside, so she doesn’t need to yell if someone isn’t near and she needs help. Like this.

But the benefit of the whistle is that it’s with you at all times, no battery needed.

Hope the docs figure out what’s going on soon.

Any chance the cause might be an allergy? Sharing this just in case it might have any benefit for your Sunshine.

I used to lose my voice twice a year: once at the start of air conditioning season (before we figured out that our a/cs were circulating allergens) and once at the start of heating season (when we figured out that our baseboard heaters needed extremely painstaking cleaning so as not to circulate dust). I also need to run a humidifier when the air is too dry—here that is in the winter, during heating season. The whole story is long and boring, but it took us a long time to figure out because doctors don’t observe people in their home environments. None of this may apply to the situation your dear Sunshine is experiencing, of course. Hope the answer comes soon!

Thanks… Yes, she has been tested for allergies (for other reasons) but nothing showed up.

I’m still cooling the house, we haven’t switched over to heat, yet. (not that we need much heat during the winter, here)

I didn’t notice any plants or trees blooming (in my yard) but that’s not to say some type of allergen is blowing in from someplace else. I’ll mention this to Sunshine, so she can ask the E.N.T.

We go back on Tuesday morning for a follow up appointment with the E.N.T. (fingers crossed)

After two days of ice treatment on Sunshine’s wrist injury, it is time to switch to heat.

I did some digging on the internet and found an idea for a rice filled sock.

So in keeping with my “use what you got” mentality, I filled an old sock with some rice (that I didn’t really like) and sewed it shut. I heated it in the microwave and it was perfect.

We have our cell phones at hand when we travel through this cavernous house or the property (there’s bears out there) just for instant communication needs.

Hey Dan, another thing I’ve found a bit more useful is a field corn (dried corn) bag. It’s got (I think, maybe) a bit more moisture content than the rice, but to me, having tried both, it seems the corn holds heat a bit better than rice. We’ve been using both for decades of kids’ (and parents!) sports injuries after day 2 and I think both work well, but the corn is maybe a bit better.

Well wishes on the continued wrist improvement, and on figuring out the ENT thing. Not knowing WTH is going on is worse than finding out, in our experience.
