Also, thanks for reminding me (with this thread) of the whole dried guajillo and pasilla peppers I bought at a Salvadoran bodega last fall in Philly! I really should put those mofos to use soon!!!

Where did you get them?

1/2 from Burlap and Barrel. 1/2 from spicejungle. They had different but complementary offerings, and it’s possible that I lost my mind in the moment. I looked around at some other sites but they were mostly latin, or mostly asian, or mostly blends. These 2 sites had the most variety.

For the record, I guess I wasn’t sufficiently thorough in going through the recs above, and just opened Oaktown Spice. I thought I’d opened them all. My bad. Their wares are very appealing and lovely, and at such time as we need chili refills (!) they will be the next store I try.

I love how you love selecting gifts. It’s one of my great joys in life.

Another shout out for Oaktown Spice! Keep them in mind for spices in addition to chilis. They also have some interesting blends. Have put together some nice gift boxes from there.

My favorite source for whole chiles (other than markets in Mexico!) is Mount Hope Wholesale - an order of anchos, mulatos and other goodies arriving tomorrow. Most items are by the pound, but I regularly split orders with friends - a pound of Urfa biber is daunting, but four ounces is just fine….

If you buy one more type you can have an even 16 and gift two jars each day of Chanukah…

I had a spice shaker that looked like this, a different brand. It had 6 different peppers inside

I found it at a gourmet store in a tourist trap town, that sold many hot sauces.

I can’t find the same hot pepper shaker online, but if I see it, I will let you know. It was neat to have for a compact kitchen.

it is possible to buy empty spice shakers with 6 compartments in one shaker.

I use Cayenne, Hungarian Paprika, Aleppo Pepper, Kashmiri Pepper, szechuan Chiles, Italian crushed chiles, black pepper and white pepper the most.

I don’t like my Urfa peppers much.

Ooohh, as a chile head myself I think you have made an excellent selection. Happy gifting!

Burlap and Barrel has powdered Hatch chili, and nice glass jars. The Hatch came in one of my subscription boxes, and smelled fantastically like Hatch chili! Sadly, no one in my family likes spice, so I’m looking to give the jar away. Sad!
