We have an 85-square-foot kitchen. Our decision to purchase a counter-top convection oven (with air-fryer setting) was a good one. We have a dual conventional oven with convection setting, but it doesn’t do as good a job as the counter-top for some things (see here: french fries). Yes, we had to make some compromises to accommodate it, but in the long run, it was worth it.
French onion soup with the last of our sweet Spanish onions (secret ingredient = sherry vinegar). Salad greens in vinaigrette with fresh pear, dried cranberries, candied pecans, and goat cheese. A few salt-and-pepper chicken wings for carnivorous nibbling.
Can’t wait to see how you make it! Have fun
Chicken leg quarters have been crazy cheap around here, too. It makes me wonder what’s up.
Dinner tonight was leftovers from our lunch in town; Reuben sandwiches, garlic fries, a piece of fried cod, and some onion rings. New addition was a potato and fresh corn off the cob chowder made with mirepoix, homemade chicken broth, herbs, haricots verts from the garden, bacon crumbles, cream, and butter because everything else didn’t have enough fat. I’m sure we’ll have Bordeaux Cherry ice-cream for dessert as my motto is too much is never enough. Speaking of mottos, Sans Peur is Sutherland’s of which I am a member. Without fear. Slainte mhath.
Har har. I see what you did there.
I went to my first watercolour class tonight and we learned how to paint sunsets and trees. None of our creations looked like their intended subjects
I didn’t get home until 8:30 so dinners on Tuesday nights will be late. I had one serving of peanut soup left in the freezer so I had that for dinner with a little rice left from last night.
I caught up with my sis yesterday to hear about her Sardinia trip & see how my nephew is holding up, then we got our covid & flu shots, which seems just in time — one of my gal pals is down with some terrible crud & had to miss our ladies outing.
It was one of our male friends’ bdays, which he happened to celebrate with his ex (don’t ask) at the same bar my gal pals and I were, so my PIC decided to show up a bit later to join in the fun.
As for WFD, this week’s bar menu had several dishes I was interested in — like the mushroom stroganoff over egg noodz, or the Cooper grilled cheese, but instead we shared the spinach salad (okay)
and the grilled cheese: tiny, and not even close to what my PIC whips up ('taint rocket surgery, after all), and which is what I asked him to do when we got home. Both GCs for your comparison below.
(of course, we pimped it out with rosemary ham and Calabrian chili mayo
The biggest news, however, is that we stopped by the local pound yesterday “just to look at some cats” (she said) …. and ended up filling out an adoption request for two super-sweet young adult males who are bonded together. Both my PIC and I were sick & tired of my crying every day, I guess.
I’m hopeful that we can bring them home as soon as this weekend, and have an empty house no more ![]()
SQUEEEEEEEE!!! Awww, they are ADORABLE! (A ginger and a half ginger! You’re gonna have FUN!) Fingers crossed you have new kids in the house this weekend!

I agree that grilled cheese you ordered is microscopic in size. Glad to hear the PIC was able to correct that!
And, most importantly, congratulations on the impending kitty adoption! They look so sweet ![]()
oh ok, i mistook those beautiful fries for someone else’s!
The BF deep fries our fries (when he was making them - he can’t really eat them anymore
) in a little tiny pot.
YES, BABIES!!!
are they not neutered? am I just mis-seeing what I think I’m seeing? why am i looking where I’m looking, anyway! ![]()
yeah, we just don’t have the counterspace, like, at all, and with low-hung cabinets over them. BF likes our toaster oven. sigh.
Oh, they are absolutely neutered. I think that’s just a little fluff where the ballz used to be (?).
empty fluffy sacs.
That’s my new stripper name, by the way. ![]()
You honestly never know where the WFD thread will lead…

One of many reasons it’s the most popular thread on this site ![]()
After a concert in Mountain View there was a need to find a midnight dinner somewhere which is not that easy (and really not looking into fast-food crap) but surprisingly Saratoga has one late night Indian restaurant - Mandala https://mandalaic.com/ which turned out to be quite good (even though most likely the chef, server and me were the only people still awake in Saratoga at that time)
Flavors of the dishes were quite good and the naan was one of the better ones on the peninsula. Overall perhaps not a destination restaurant but a very solid choice for good Indian food (late night or not)
Gobi Manchurian - crisped cauliflower, onion, tomato, bell pepper tossed in soy, garlic and cumin
Lamb Rogan Josh - stewed Colorado lamb chunks, blend of spices, brown onion & tomatoes
Pesto Cilantro Naan
Basmati Rice
