Welcome to the nomination thread for COTMs for the final quarter of 2025. In looking at recent successes, it’s easy to see a couple of trends pop out. Having plenty of online access makes it easy for people to participate, and having a good trove of recipes to choose from, whether it’s multiple works and/or a website from a single author, or a wide-ranging site. Of course, you should nominate books or authors or sites that you’d like to cook from this autumn.
You may nominate as many sources as you like. Please type nominations in ALL CAPS, and use regular capitalization to discuss, rather than nominate.
Nominations will close WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24. Voting will follow, though if there’s a runaway front-runner, that will become one of our two choices.
We’ll be in “busy season” in the US, so I’m thinking both about things that could work for the various holidays, or as a palate-cleanser / break from the various holidays .
Many of the recipes from her books were quite rich, but a couple of simple ones did go into permanent rotation for me from her previous COTM, and the richer ones would be well-timed for the season too.
SAMIN NOSRAT quarter - I think a lot of us are eagerly awaiting her new book and excerpts from Salt Fat… are everywhere. Plus, she has contributed articles to so many publications including a podcast.
Her first two books, Cravings and Cravings: Hungry for More were COTMs on Chowhound in 2019, and though I didn’t cook from them myself, people seemed to enjoy them a lot. Comfort-ish food with some Thai influences from her mother, as I recall.
I love Cravings. Worth it for the mac and cheese recipe alone, although the biscuits and gravy has also become a favorite. Now that it’s fall, there’s a pull apart bread with I think an artichoke dip and cheese situation that is also appealing. Drunken noodles with whiskey in the sauce. Pot pie soup with crackers made from pie crust…
I’d be glad for Samin Nosrat, but we usually wait a bit on new books so that there is time for folks who want to borrow them for the library instead of purchase to be able to do that.
